As part of the global Energy Transition, the UK needs to build significantly more HV transmission and distribution infrastructure over the next seven years than has been built in the last thirty. BakerHicks has decades of specialist experience in major infrastructure projects and has grown rapidly in the Transmission & Distribution sector over the last 8 years, successfully winning a number of major projects within the UK.
As the demand to deliver exceptional engineering design from our clients continues to grow, so does our need to attract outstanding graduate talent to join our High Voltage engineering team.
Our Graduate Programme
As a Graduate Engineer within our High Voltage team, you will be part of a growing team focused on contributing to the UK’s Energy Transition. You will develop an understanding of the principles of design and construction, and the use of industry standard software packages in order to produce accurate, high quality design drawings, reports and calculations.
You will gain practical experience in producing deliverables associated with the design and build of complex projects. These will be produced for some of the main high voltage transmission and distribution clients in the UK and abroad, covering both contractors and asset owners.
You will gain valuable experience of teamwork and fast-paced, exceptional engineering execution.
Principal Responsibilities
* Provide engineering services design and consultancy work outputs on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
* Produce design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site survey reports, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing and ensure progress against the project brief.
* Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions.
* Contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scope of work documents and change control documentation as required.
* A developing understanding of CDM requirements.
What We're Looking For
* BEng/BSc in Engineering with Power/High Voltage background
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
* Ability to work well within a team
* Desire to develop and learn new skills with ability to transfer existing skills to overcome new challenges
You’ll also need to feel confident to challenge the status quo, strive for perfect delivery and possess a willingness to get involved with every opportunity to develop yourself and put our customers first.
Due to the recent changes to salary thresholds set by UKVI, BakerHicks graduate positions do not meet the requirements to support new entrant visa sponsorship. Therefore, all applicants must have the permanent right to work in the United Kingdom.
