TRANSACTIONAL CONSTRUCTION (PROJECTS) LAWYER SCOTLAND AND UK REGIONS Brief Our Construction and Engineering Group team is expanding and we are currently looking to recruit a talented transactional (non-contentious) construction lawyer, ideally with experience in the energy sector though not essential, with 4-8 years' PQE to join our team. This is an opportunity involving transactional construction work with a particular focus on renewable energy projects primarily across the UK but also internationally â the preference is for the candidate to join the Scottish team, but all of our UK office locations would be considered. A number of our major client relationships, and the projects on which we advise, in the energy sector are led by partners based in our offices in Scotland. The role will involve working with those partners and with our wider national team. Did you know? We are the largest team of specialist construction lawyers at any law firm in the world. We have over 350 energy and infrastructure specialists globally â the largest in the world of its kind. This leading global position is well recognised, having been awarded Construction Law firm of the Year (Who's Who Legal) for the last fifteen years consecutively. Our Team As we have noted above, a number of the key client relationships and projects are led by partners based in Scotland. Our Construction team works on a national basis and those Scotland-based partners work on a day-to-day basis with lawyers across our UK and international network. Our team is listed as Tier 1 in the Legal 500 in both the Construction, as well as the Energy and Infrastructure, categories for Scotland. Similarly, our team is listed as Tier 1 by Chambers & Partners in the Construction, Energy (excl. oil & gas), and Projects categories for Scotland. Iain MacPhail is a construction and engineering lawyer with extensive experience of advising on major projects across the energy and infrastructure sectors. Julia Maguire is recognised for her non-contentious construction practice, with particular expertise in the energy sector. Michael Allan advises clients on all aspects of non-contentious construction matters, including large-scale development projects. Nicholas Carlin, specialising in supply chain arrangements in the renewable energy sphere, is noted by Legal500 as being a âNext Generation Partnerâ. Those directories recognise us for: being âwidely considered to be the pre-eminent firm in the Scottish construction market, offering remarkable depth of talent in both the contentious and non-contentious spacesâ; particular proficiency in matters pertaining to the energy industry, both in the UK and internationally; our expertise in energy, infrastructure and real estate developments; being a regular fixture on large-scale energy, infrastructure and real estate projects, acting for national and international owners, developers and institutional investors; advising high-profile clients from the private and public sectors on major civil engineering projects; and advising a range of industry players including developers, contractors and funders. We have an unrivalled reputation in acting for developers, funders, project companies, contractors, consultants and insurers across all of our global sectors - Energy (offshore and onshore renewables, hydrogen, nuclear, water and hydro, and oil and gas) Infrastructure, Real Estate, Transport, Education and health. Our construction team is market leaders in advising global energy sector developers in the procurement of their most significant projects both in the UK and more widely. We act for major property developers and investors in the UK advising on their most complex and high value developments, we act more than half of the UK's top 50 contractors, a large number of the top contractors worldwide, major energy utilities across Europe and an impressive range of private and public sector clients active in the construction space both domestically and abroad. What our Clients say: â The Pinsent Masons team does very good work for us. They provide appropriate and reliable senior and junior resource to achieve this and support us proactively commercially. â (hub South West Scotland) â They have been involved in this project since the very start, from the early stages of procurement up to Financial Close, and have worked hand in glove with us throughout. They brought with them a variety of experiences and lessons learned on other projects which they shared, and applied to the work they did for us. They have drawn on this experience to suggest solutions to issues we faced; this was very useful. â ( Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Limited ) â They do not just give us legal solutions, they also give actual commercial and pragmatic approaches to problems. Some law firms just want to give the legal points and do not really understand the commercial needs of the clients. That is something which I have not experienced with Pinsent Masons, as they have always been very cognisant of our commercial needs, and they really try to work with that in terms of the legal options available. â (GrainCorp Limited) The Candidate Required The team's pipeline is such that our vacancy would best suit a candidate well versed in energy related transactional (non-contentious) construction work. However, we would also consider applicants with a strong background in transactional construction work outside of the energy sector, combined with a genuine interest in pursuing their career in a different direction. The successful candidate will have the opportunity of exposure to both construction and projects work across a wide range of sectors, both across the UK and internationally, so experience and flexibility in that regard is an advantage. Experience in the energy sector in particular would be desirable though not essential. The successful candidate will: have gained experience in a large commercial firm, in-house legal team or local authority; be a team player, able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues in an agile environment; be enthusiastic and engaged and keen to develop their career and contribute to the success of a fantastic team; be technically strong and exercise good commercial judgment; and have the interpersonal skills necessary for this client-facing role. The role is wide-ranging, will focus on and include: the opportunity to be involved in work in the very best national and international construction work; developing on-going relationships with an existing client base as well as pitching for new opportunities; and developing close working relationships as part of an international team. What will we offer you? We are a market leading, dynamic and growing global team who work together to produce outstanding results for our clients. You will have exposure to the best quality work and top global clients. You will get early responsibility and opportunities to develop key client relationships. We invest in our team and have a first-class training and career development programme. Our training reflects our market-leading position and focuses on helping you to develop as a specialist with valuable sector knowledge and the ability to deliver "best in class" services.
