Responsibilities
1. To take a leading role and autonomously manage a highly complex caseload of adults with a Learning Disability with associated communication and/or eating, drinking, swallowing difficulties [Dysphagia] - providing a highly specialist clinical service of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, advice and management, including maintenance of associated records, in order to maximise communication potential and ensure safe feeding practice. This includes working in partnership with families, carers, team professionals and other significant personnel.
2. To support and coordinate the work of ALD SLT team with colleagues and participate fully as a team member of Community Learning Disability Team(s).
3. To provide placements and supervise the work of Speech and Language Therapy students to further the development of the profession.
4. To develop and provide specialist teaching and training packages and other learning opportunities for professionals, carers and students in order to enable best practice and maximise service capability.
5. To provide clinical advice, support and teaching for less experienced Speech and Language Therapists/staff.
6. To heighten awareness of communication disability in own specialist area and to promote the Inclusive Communication agenda of accessible information and environments, service user involvement and training.
7. To participate in Clinical Governance activity including clinical audit and research and development, within specialist area.
