Main duties of the job The post requires possession of a higher academic qualification in Pain Management with a wide general experience in interventional, pharmacological and non-pharmacological forms of pain management. It is recognised that there is currently no nationally-recognised CST in Pain Management. Specific experience of managing own caseload in an outpatient pain clinic is essential as is experience of managing hospital inpatients with an acute-on-chronic pain episodes (malignant or non-malignant); patients presenting for surgery with a history of chronic pain; and hospital inpatients with a history of opioid use or misuse in the community. The postholder should have completed supervised training in Pain Management and interventional techniques from consultants with formal dedicated pain sessions as part of their job plan. Previous experience in organising teaching of undergraduate medical students, clinical nurse specialists and supervision of nurse-prescribers is desirable.
