Underwriter – Casualty Reinsurance

We are looking for an Underwriter to join our leading and highly successful Casualty Reinsurance team based in London. Your role will be to engage with clients, brokers and AXA XL stakeholders across every aspect of the underwriting process, whether renewal business or new opportunities.You will have the technical ability to independently price business, as well as a solid grounding in all aspects Casualty coverage. You will work closely with the portfolio managers to ensure risk appetite is optimized across key areas. As a dedicated team player, you will be expected to source new opportunities and utilize your communication and relationship building skills to grow the portfolio profitably.You will be actively involved in the business planning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within the account; maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
1. Responsible for the day-to-day management and development of a designated portfolio
2. Working under general direction, initially on small and/or less complex accounts.
3. A good understanding of the markets and clients, with the ability to target preferred risks within appetite.
4. Service day-to-day needs of existing clients, including handling of special acceptances, business development, and technical exchanges.
5. Preparing and conducting meetings with clients and brokers, often in a solo capacity.
6. Liaising with Actuaries, Finance and Contract Teams to deliver sound technical analysis.
7. Present business plans and individual risks to senior management.
8. Develop a solid understanding of the underwriting systems (Pricing, Destiny IR, Work Bench, Aggregate Monitoring tools) and liaising with our Global Shared Servicing team where necessary.
9. Assist the wider Business Group in developing the global International Casualty portfolio.
10. Understand the strategy and financial targets of AXA XL Reinsurance and those applicable to the business unit. You will be set appropriate individual targets and goals that support delivery of the business plan.

·Proven experience of Casualty Reinsurance

·Able to perform tasks according to established procedures, with some ability to exercise discretion
·Uses judgment to identify and solve day to day problems in straightforward situations
·Excellent analytical skills with the ability to think quickly and innovatively, always working in a disciplined manner. A high level of competency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
·You will be confident and comfortable to take personal responsibility for your work but will also be a true team player.
·Be aware of the control processes that operate around an underwriting function and the need to comply with them
·Ability to adapt quickly and easily to new conditions and requirements, externally in the market or internally within a changing Organization.
·You will have good interpersonal skills and an interest in business development
·Relevant professional designations or be progressing along the way to achieving such designations.
