As a member of the Safety, Health and Environmental Team you provide subject matter expert advice, guidance and insight to colleagues across Home Care, Abri Build, Development and Asset Management that advocates positive behaviour and encourages a culture of proactive health and safety management to ensure the health and safety of colleagues and others we come into contact with during our operations. Key Responsibilities Develop close and influential relationships within the region to support the leadership team across Home Care, Abri Build, Development and Asset Management. ensuring health, safety and environmental services are easily accessible and well-integrated into daily operations Act as an advisory to the business by sharing knowledge and guidance at toolbox talks and team meetings, and providing ongoing support, creating a collaborative environment that prioritises health and safety Design and promote health safety and environmental resources to support managers with the effective operational management of occupational safety risks including the risk assessment process and maintain regular communication channels to consult, inform, influence, and drive action Evaluate the impact of the health and safety management system by monitoring accident/incident reports undertaking investigation, and where appropriate advising on measures to prevent reoccurrence, making recommendations to achieve the required improvements, and reporting to enforcing authorities (e.g. RIDDOR) when required Producing reports and evidence where required for distribution with external stakeholders such as Abri’s insurance provider, the HSE, and Local Authority Monitor Safety, Health and Environmental compliance through inspections and audits across Home Care, Abri Build Development and Asset Management activities and proactively identify and address potential issues ensuring a coordinated response to maintain a safe workplace for all colleagues Complete focussed audits i.e. where controls may be complex, where there may be significant risk, for example, after an accident, change in process, evidence of non-compliance or support monitoring of training effectiveness Provide reports to management teams on performance results of audits providing supporting with creation of timely action plan to address areas with solutions that mitigate risk and minimise disruptions to business as usual Actively engage with contractors to ensure they meet our standards and acknowledge the responsibilities different duty holders Manage and measure environmental compliance offering advice and support to managers to drive key actions to maintain compliance Support and promote workplace consultation, co-ordination and co-operation with regards to health, safety and environmental, including formal meetings and creation of reports Delivering in house training to colleagues covering Safety, Health and Environmental to ensure competence, confidence, enhance their knowledge and skills keep colleagues safe Work directly or indirectly with enforcement bodies such as Local Authorities & HSE to ensure Abri stays up to date with compliance requirements and to respond to regulators enquires, providing them with information and escalating as required Requirements For this position, we have listed the requirements we believe are essential for this role: Knowledge, Skills & Experience Practical experience in a H&S role in a multi-discipline and multi-site environment with a track record of delivering measurable and visible improvements in health, safety, and wellbeing culture Tech IOSH working towards Certified Member of IOSH status, proactively participate in Continuous Professional Development NEBOSH General Certificate (essential), NEBOSH Certificate in construction (or willing to work towards) and environmental qualification (or willing to work towards) Strong knowledge of H&S and environmental legislation, and the ability to interpret and implement H&S guidance UK Based construction / house building experience (desirable) Demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration and presentation skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders at all levels Self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, prioritising workload effectively whilst working under own initiative to meet strict deadlines and maintaining excellent attention to detail Developed coaching and mentoring skills to improve H&S performance Computer literate with practical knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint Full driving licence and access to own transport with appropriate business insurance or ability to travel in a timely and efficient manner, to fulfil the geographically flexible way of work required for the role Benefits The salary for this role is £48,000 per annum with up to 10% pension contribution.
