We’re looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Import/Export Coordinator to join our client’s logistics team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth and compliant movement of goods in and out of the country. You will work closely with internal teams, external vendors, and government authorities to manage import and export activities, ensuring compliance with all regulations while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Role Responsibilities
1. Coordinate the import and export of goods, ensuring compliance with all customs regulations and company policies.
2. Prepare and review shipping documentation (e.g., bills of lading, certificates of origin, commercial invoices) to ensure accuracy and compliance with international trade regulations.
3. Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other third-party service providers to facilitate smooth and timely shipments.
4. Maintain records of all import and export transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including HMRC and international trade agreements.
5. Manage customs clearance processes and ensure accurate tariff classifications and duty calculations.
6. Track and monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery and resolve any issues related to delays, documentation errors, or customs holds.
7. Stay up-to-date with changes in import/export laws and regulations and ensure the company remains compliant.
8. Provide support to internal teams (e.g., finance, procurement, logistics) on matters related to import/export procedures, duties, and taxes.
9. Manage and maintain records of all trade compliance documentation, ensuring they are up-to-date and audit-ready.
10. Assist with audits of import/export documentation and processes, as needed.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Qualification Requirements
Essential
1. Experience in import/export coordination or a similar logistics role.
2. Knowledge of customs regulations and international trade laws.
3. Strong attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy of documentation and compliance with regulations.
4. Proficient IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and customs management systems.
5. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with internal teams, external partners, and customs authorities.
7. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve shipping and customs-related issues effectively.
8. GCSEs including Maths and English, or equivalent.
9. Relevant logistics, customs, or international trade qualification (or relevant work experience).
Desirable
1. Experience with specific customs software (e.g., CHIEF, CDS).
2. Knowledge of Incoterms and international shipping standards.
3. Experience with auditing import/export documentation.
4. Familiarity with trade compliance programs such as AEO (Authorized Economic Operator).
