Rising Talent Fellowships for Black Heritage Scientists
Starting Salary: £41,344 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a leading institute for biological research. The four research divisions: Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry (PNAC), and Structural Studies, work together as a close-knit community.
We aim to enable scientists of Black heritage, who are passionate about molecular biology and biomedical sciences, to grow their scientific experience. The LMB is committed to improving the representation of Black heritage scientists in the UK’s higher education sector.
We are looking to appoint two Black Heritage Postdoctoral Scientists into our 3-year Rising Talent Fellowship. This training and development position is suitable for those who have recently completed their doctoral studies, are due to complete within 6 months, or are early career researchers moving into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop their research skills. You will work with world-class scientists in an institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research.
Each Fellow will be assigned to a specific group, and applicants are encouraged to speak to LMB Group Leaders they are interested in working with to ensure a strong scientific alignment with the LMB’s scientific programme. Once assigned, you will help determine the overall direction and remit of the project in discussion with the Group Leader, making significant contributions over the three-year lifespan. There will be opportunities to present scientific work at seminars and external meetings, and to contribute to research publications, including drafting scientific papers.
We offer flexibility in working hours to accommodate personal circumstances, as well as provisions for maternity, paternity, shared parental, or adoptive leave.
The LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art facilities on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We provide on-site parking, cycle enclosures, and excellent public transport links. Our amenities include a staff restaurant with a roof terrace, access to a Campus nursery, and sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, and enjoy a holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days). We are committed to providing training and development opportunities, including support towards role-related qualifications.
The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). More information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
Closing date: Sunday 23rd March 2025.
Interviews are anticipated to take place in May 2025, with successful Fellows joining the LMB between early October and the end of December 2025, though there is flexibility.
Final appointments will be subject to pre-employment screening.
