Do you aspire to work for an ‘Outstanding’ Local Authority?
Here in Telford and Wrekin, children, young people and families are at the heart of all we do. The qualities that are important to them are:
* Understanding that there are layers to a person, a practitioner’s ability to see the person as a 'whole'
* The ability to practice care and kindness
* Being able to really listen to children, young people and families - what are their views, hopes, aspirations and worries?
* The ability to communicate well
Our family are usually the people closest to us, those we care most about. Family life is not just about legal ties – it goes far deeper than that. It concerns our most important biological, social and emotional relationships. We hold the value that children and young people are best cared for by their birth families and extended networks, and this underpins our ‘family first’ ethos.
Where this cannot be achieved, we seek to ensure that children and young people’s relationships are maintained in line with their best interests. Birth parents and extended networks are included within the decision-making processes, and we provide alternative care which is nurturing, and which fosters a sense of belonging.
The post holder is designated responsible for the service delivery and line management of a team of people working with Children and Families in the systemic team.
This role will be key in supporting the systemic practice model with a focus on relational networks - aiding the network around a child to repair and come together to support the child/young person throughout children’s services.
The practitioner will lead the Family Group decision making coordinators to work with families in a whole family system approach, to find their own strengths and solutions to their problems and keep children, young people, safe and nurtured within their families.
The successful candidate will be required to work in close partnership with Social Work colleagues, guiding and supporting restorative approaches to working with families, in line with the proposed changes in legislation.
The post holder will lead by example to enable children, young people and their family, including wider family networks to be at the heart of any decision making, ensuring they are actively involved in producing Family Plans that meet their needs.
They will work as part of a team receiving and coordinating the referrals for family decision making forums, leading practice in this area across children’s services.
The post holder will be responsible for working alongside families to repair and enhance relationships within the relational network, modelling principles of systemic practice.
This role is a key part of the reforms to Children’s Social Care and provides a key role in driving the use of family decision making forums across services, with a focus on a renewed mandatory offer within the family safeguarding service working with families to reduce impairment, risk and build on strengths.
The post holder will have a level of specialist knowledge which will support delivery of services to individuals with wide ranging levels of need including children and young people being supported by statutory legislation.
