The NHS England South West (SW) Regional Finance directorate is a high performing team, flexible in approach, adaptable to change, and a key function of the Regional structure. It oversees the financial performance of the region by:
• Ensuring risk is managed and balanced across organisations, systems
• Managing and actively promoting system working to ensure best value for money
• Ensuring systems and processes are in place to enable sound financial control
• Providing necessary advice, support, challenge to organisations and the systems
• Work with systems and organisations to develop sustainable financial strategies
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic individual into the role of Deputy Director of Operational Finance – Relationship Lead.
The post holder will be a member of the SW Regional, Finance Directorate, ICS Support team. The team has responsibility for the assurance of systems revenue positions and provide support to systems to enable them to deliver the best value for money.
The team is outwardly focused, providing support/challenge to Systems to ensure the best use of revenue across the SW. In this role the ability to build relationships with finance/non-finance colleagues regionally/nationally will be crucial to delivery.
The post holder will, as a member of the Finance Leadership team, play an active role in supportingindividuals within the Finance Directorate and the SW Systems to achieve their best and be proud to work in the SW.
• Support systems to deliver in year, develop annual operational plans, and ensure effective oversight and development of provider organisations
• Provide expert advice internally and externally to systems across a range of finance subject matter areas
• Matrix working across regional finance/non-finance directorates, leveraging relationships across the wider team to ensure effective delivery of regional priorities
• Prime finance relationship lead for one or more systems in the South West
• Responsibility for specific subject areas (to be determined) which contribute to the delivery of directorate and regional priorities and ensure best use of finite resource within region
• If not leading, contribute to delivery of the teams responsibilities with regards to governance and regulatory responsibilities. This may include but not be limited to the quarterly System Oversight Framework ratings, assurance processes around capital and service change.
• Provide support to ensure effective operation of the regional deputies group
• Represent the regional team in regional and national meetings and forums as required
• Responsible for supporting the joint FSD leads in setting the direction for the development of the wider regional finance team

• Any other reasonable duties requested by the senior finance team.

As Head of Finance – ICS Supportthe post holder will work as a senior member of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the South West Region.
The post holder will develop effective strategy and operational policies for promoting innovation across Sector. Working closely with colleagues across the sector, ensuring coherent strategy.
The post holder’s responsibilities will include being on NHS England & NHS Improvement’s Emergency, Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) on call rotas.
