Data Managers/Analysts are responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and control of data within their remit. They review incoming and outgoing data to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets quality standards, proactively identifying any issues and improvement opportunities.
They also monitor the data throughout the lifecycle to ensure it remains compliant with data protection principles, which they should be familiar with.
Data Managers/Analysts are responsible for ensuring that data governance is in place, and that data is registered correctly. Their tasks include completion/update of:
1. Data Privacy Impact Assessments;
2. Data Sharing Agreements/MoUs;
3. Data Transfer Templates;
4. Data Catalogues;
Data Managers/Analysts should be able to identify risks that may impact the data and manage them accordingly.
Data Managers/Analysts should have strong stakeholder engagement skills to deal confidently with customers and stakeholders across the Contracting Authority and Other Government Departments.
They are responsible for inbound and outbound data, with specific adherence to Data Quality, Data Integrity, Data Security, and Data Lineage in line with UK GDPR and the DPA, and have a good understanding of the associated principles.
They work closely within central resource teams and teams embedded within a Function to ensure changes to data and metadata are captured and impacted across the data lifecycle and work to improve the data captured in line with business requirements.
They produce effective communications for users and stakeholders across the UK Government around changes to data products.
They maintain inventories and catalogues that log information about the data we store.
They act as the subject matter expert and point of contact for data relating to a specific domain within central resource teams and teams embedded within a Function.
They lead, or play a key role in, meetings to discuss risks and issues around data and take action to manage them in a timely manner.
Typical Data Management Skills required include:
1. Knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection principles.
2. Knowledge of industry leading data quality practices.
3. An understanding of the ITIL framework and service management.
4. Knowledge of data integrity frameworks, and the application of data standards.
5. A technical awareness and an ability to translate business requirements into data products.
