We are seeking a highly skilled Stores Person with advanced forklift capabilities and strong IT proficiency to join our client, a leading industrial steelworks in Scunthorpe. This critical role supports complex supply chain operations and inventory management essential to the continuous operation of the site. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, transitioning to a shift-based schedule following initial training. The role is initially offered on a temporary basis with the potential for permanent employment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Specialist Materials Handling: Operate counterbalance forklifts (reach truck experience advantageous) to handle heavy industrial materials, ensuring adherence to strict health and safety regulations within a steelworks environment.
2. Logistics Coordination: Load and unload deliveries, ensuring accurate documentation, compliance with handling procedures, and minimal disruption to production schedules.
3. Inventory Management: Utilise advanced inventory management systems to conduct stock checks, verify goods received against technical specifications, and manage stock movements to support just-in-time operations.
4. Operational Efficiency: Maintain optimal organisation within the stores, implementing continuous improvement practices to streamline processes and enhance supply chain performance.
5. Autonomous Decision-Making: Work independently, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills to support unplanned requirements, respond to operational demands, and minimise downtime.
What We re Looking For:
1. Forklift Expertise: Proven ability to operate counterbalance forklifts safely and efficiently in a heavy industrial setting; reach truck experience desirable.
2. Technical IT Skills: Competent in using inventory management software, warehouse management systems (WMS), and Microsoft Office applications for real-time stock control and reporting.
3. Logistical Insight: Understanding of supply chain principles, including stock rotation, demand forecasting, and critical spares management.
4. Full UK Driving Licence: Clean, valid licence essential for on-site and off-site logistics support.
5. Proactive Approach: Ability to work unsupervised with a commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvements.
