The role will work primarily within our front door frailty services with the opportunity to develop more specialist roles within the department to suit the interests of the applicant. The successful candidate will also be expected to support the on call medical consultant rota.

The above is an example job plan. Following discussion, this will be adjusted to successful candidate's specialist interests and flexible working requests as well as the service they choose to work in.
Specialist interest areas may include Bone health, Frailty, Parkinson's, Community Geriatrics (including Hospital @ Home services), Continence, Falls (including tilt table testing), Surgical in-reach, Oncogeriatrics, Education. All these areas, even though well established, have further scope for expansion. We are also more than happy to consider other areas of interest for development at WTWA, following discussion with individual candidates, such as cardio-geriatrics.
The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the general medical consultant on call rota. As a specialist, this will be as a second on call medical consultant/specialist and will involve a combination of evening, overnight and weekend cover. At the time of the advert, the frequency of the on call medical rota is 1 in 24 weekdays and 1 in 8 weekends with one bank holiday per calendar year.

* Medical Degree
* Full registration and licence to practice with the GMC
* MRCP(UK) or equivalent
* Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE) in Geriatric Medicine

* Postgraduate degree or additional certification

* Diploma of Geriatric Medicine
Training
Essential
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to level of ST training in Geriatric Medicine of at least 4 years.
* Demonstrable experience in acute frailty
* Clinical training and experience in Geriatrics, Acute Frailty and discharge planning as well as some experience in community geriatrics
* Experience working in acute setting in ED/ Frailty Assessment Unit
Desirable
* Experience of Rehabilitation in a variety of settings
* Experience of working with community teams
* Demonstrates ability to innovate and change current practices to improve the patient experience
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in the field of Geriatric medicine
