Job Summary
37.5 hours per week - Over two week shift pattern (1 week earlies, 1 week lates).
The Sterile Services (HSDU) at the Great Western Hospital supports the activity of the operating theatres, endoscopy, clinic areas, community dentistry, podiatry services, and external customers.
This is not a patient-facing role but is very much patient-focused, with the patient at the core of everything we do.
The environment is busy and active, and you will need to be able to respond to the 'peaks and troughs' of the work to support the service. An ability to deal with the sight of blood is necessary as the instruments are used in operations.
Main Duties of the Job
The team is responsible for the decontamination, checking, assembly, packing, sterilization, and delivery of surgical instrument packs to both internal and external customers. We need more individuals to cover the growing service demand.
You will need to enjoy detailed work, be prepared and able to learn the names of surgical instruments, work within a department that uses standard operating procedures and a Quality Management System, and become part of a committed, strong team. We pride ourselves on our quality and the service we provide for patients.
Any experience of working in a decontamination, cleaning, or sterilization environment will be an advantage, but not a necessity, as we provide a very extensive training package. A full UK driving licence would also be an advantage as we provide transportation for some external customers.
Responsibilities include the collection, decontamination, packing, sterilizing, and dispatch of medical devices throughout the Trust site.
