As a teacher in Fife you will be responsible for leading learning within your classroom context, promoting inclusion, diversity and equality, communicating with other stakeholders and for contributing to wider improvements across the school community. Viewforth High School is a six-year comprehensive school in Kirkcaldy, Fife. We aim to provide the highest quality educational experience which is focused around positive outcomes for all our learners. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all learners and we offer a vast range of qualifications and awards, allowing pupils to experience the pathway to success that is right for them. We strive to support and challenge every young person to be the very best they can be in order that they thrive in years to come and ultimately transition into a positive destination when they leave school. In this role the postholder will: Be an effective practitioner and keep up to date with learning and teaching pedagogy. Be familiar with the National Practice model and the application of the principles of GIRFEC within a secondary school environment. Be able to participate in and initiate professional discussion in addressing barriers to wellbeing, learning and achievement. Ensure effective strategies to support pupils’ learning. Key Tasks include: Supporting School Improvement Priorities (SIP) linked to the development of Universal, Additional and Intensive strategies that will enhance the school capacity to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional support needs. Monitoring and tracking of individual pupil attendance, progress and achievement Support the allocation of resources (PSAs) across the school in a planned and effective manner. Work with pupils, teaching staff and parents to agree strategies to address barriers to learning. Primary Transition – working collaboratively with Primary Schools and the S1/2 year team (Transition) to support the school transition programme in order to provide an effective transition for all young people from P7 to S1, particularly those young people with ASN. Monitoring and evaluating strategies put in place to maximise pupil achievement. Liaison with colleagues in other support agencies on behalf of allocated pupils. These duties may change as the school further develops its Management and Pupil Support plans. Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements You are required to have high levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people in your setting. You are required to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional learning as a practitioner through career-long professional learning activity and to be able to show how this has impacted on your practice For posts within Primary you are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in Primary. For posts within Secondary you are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in Secondary for the specific subject. You are required to model all behaviour expected of a teacher in Scotland in line with the relevant Professional Standards. Full registration is required for all Permanent posts, for temporary class teacher posts, provisional GTCS registration in the relevant sector will be considered. Candidates holding GTCS registration in Further Education must also hold Primary or Secondary registration to meet the essential criteria as determined by Fife Council Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
