Chief Nurse Clinical Services and Plasma Job Summary NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) are looking for a nurse who can lead the clinical delivery of two expanding directorates- Clinical Services and Plasma. Both directorates are critical to clinical delivery across England and are exciting and developing directorates in our organisation. Clinical Services supports a wide range of activities including: A transfusion function with a range of roles including doctors, biomedical & clinical scientists, nurses, and data analysts. Clinical audit is a key component of clinical governance, contributing to continuous quality improvement of services provided and safeguarding high standards of care. Statistics and Clinical Research support analysis and research from its inception and current evidence base, through to clinical trials, observational studies, analysis, dissemination, and implementation. Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) provide adults and children with access to a portfolio of apheresis services across a range of clinical specialties using technology that exchanges, removes or collects certain components within the blood. Plasma for Medicines (PFM) is an exciting new type of donation which helps saves the lives of around 17,000 people in England a year. Through contributions, we can help treat people with weak immune systems such as those with genetic disorders or people with immune systems damaged by cancer treatment, and people whose immune system is attacking itself. You will join us as an effective leader of change, constantly seeking opportunities to recognise best practice (both within NHSBT and in other organisations) and incorporate this into the nursing strategy and delivery within Clinical Services and Plasma Directorates. Main duties of the job Joining NHSBT in this role, you will be accountable for the provision of effective and highly visible leadership of nursing and clinical governance within Clinical Services and Plasma Directorates. Your responsibilities will include the strategic development of nursing, in addition, the development of professional standards and excellence in clinical quality of care. You will be the most senior nurse for Clinical Services and Plasma Directorates and will be a key member of the Senior Management Teams, providing expert advice, contributing fully to the development of the Directorate Strategy and Business Plan and will work closely with other Senior Nurses/Managers and Executive Directors in driving forward the modernisation of services and the clinical governance agenda. As a key member of the Nursing SMT you will provide clinical leadership to support the full understanding of the links between nursing and our wider operational team(s) and will ensure that Nursing is fully integrated into this multidisciplinary team in a manner that facilitates performance improvement for the clinical teams. Being responsible for the development of excellent governance and risk management processes in the Directorates and ensuring that these are fully aligned with corporate policies, standards, and procedures. You will act as a Chair for both Plasma CARE & Clinical Services CARE, leading on clinical governance and risk, and as the Directorate safeguarding lead. You will also be key in developing our organisational offering to nurses and you will be key in the creation, analysis and delivery of an attractive national recruitment and career plan for how both Directorates will attract and retain nurses. You will also be responsible for the development and implementation of an effective Education and Development Strategy for staff (both clinical and non-clinical) ensuring that outcomes are based on the principles of continuous improvement of the donor & patient experience, including the management and leadership of the Education and Development Department. About You Experience and Knowledge Demonstrable awareness of national professional and education issues. Knowledge required to manage external education contracts within contract framework Clinical risk management knowledge Evidence of significant experience in developing, writing and drafting policy Demonstrable senior level management experience in leading, motivating and developing teams Evidence of leading on quality initiatives Qualifications and Training Master s degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate subject e.g. education, management, clinical expertise with post Master s experience leading to status as an expert for the role. Professional qualification in teaching/education at master s level and/or expert level of knowledge gained via substantial work-based experience. Relevant Clinical qualification (e.g NMC) with requirement to maintain registration. Evidence of continuing professional development developing expertise across the range of financial, performance management, staff leadership and project management disciplines. Broad clinical experience relevant to the post.
