About the Opportunity
Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.
Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
The Joint Design Office (JDO) has been created to reinforce the HPC site-based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary benefit of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities.
Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, you will be a Mechanical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the HVAC scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
The role will be focused on the HVAC discipline but will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office). Key responsibilities will be:
1. Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the MEH Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer.
2. Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
3. Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
4. Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
5. Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
6. Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
7. Maintain a strong relationship with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer)
8. Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.
