Engineering Operations Technician, Data Center Engineering Operations
We are currently seeking a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to serve as a technical resource within our mission critical Data Centers in Vasteras and other locations in Sweden. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of Data Center Engineering Operations. Due to the success of Amazon Web Services (AWS) operations and the rapid expansion of Data Centers, we are recruiting suitable candidates to operate and maintain these facilities in Sweden. In this role, you will positively impact both the maintenance of facilities and the improvement of efficiencies to help offer Amazon customers better value.
Key Job Responsibilities:
1. Assisting in the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, fire/life safety equipment, and HVAC equipment within the Data Center/Facility. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.
2. Assisting in the maintenance and monitoring of all Data Center systems to include incidents/events, problems, changes, monitoring, problem escalation/notification/resolution, and all other aspects of Data Center support.
3. Monitoring and troubleshooting all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, voice/data, cooling systems, fire/life safety equipment, and generators.
4. Providing assistance to contractors or data center engineers to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment.
5. Providing assistance to contractors or data center engineers to deploy new equipment, such as building racks, cabling, and other tasks as necessary.
6. Performing site walkthroughs to verify proper operation of Facility Equipment and Monitoring Systems. You will also act as a Facilities First Responder to critical events and support new and existing data center facilities.
A Day in the Life:
1. Monitoring of all alarms and systems involved in the operation of power, cooling, and fire suppression systems in the data center.
2. Planning and coordinating vendor work on site to ensure equipment is maintained and uptime retained.
3. Supporting other sites and teams during events and planned works.
4. Carrying out rack power-up and installation duties.
5. Monitoring and facilitating new equipment handover.
6. Supporting new hires and team members through knowledge sharing and development.
7. Event response and drill participation.
About the Team:
The Data Center Engineering Operation team is responsible for the uptime and availability of power, cooling, fire suppression, fire detection, and overall facility management of the data center. The team is diverse, inclusive, and supportive across the site and works to deliver the highest operational standards for our customers and personnel.
Basic Qualifications:
1. 2+ years electrical, mechanical, and/or controls relevant experience (degree or trade qualification preferred).
2. Demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies and theory.
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
5. Ability to solve problems through root-cause elimination, understanding the broader context.
6. Ability to follow procedures, system documentation, and track issues through appropriate entries into a Trouble Ticket system.
7. Knowledge and application of safe electrical practice according to guidelines set by relevant electrical safety supervisory bodies.
8. Ability to maintain service level agreements (SLAs) through proactive issue detection and immediate response.
9. Competent in the use of basic IT programs such as MS Word/Excel or similar.
10. Valid EU driving license.
11. Note: This role involves covering 24x7 shift rotation.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Professional Certification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls engineering.
2. Heavy industry or data center experience.
3. Understanding of basic electrical principles and systems.
4. Working knowledge of generic mechanical-room infrastructure such as chillers, Air Handling Units, and fan controls.
5. Working knowledge of backup generator systems.
6. Strong ownership and ability to step outside day-to-day tasks to develop and improve the business.
7. Ability to actively engage and work collaboratively with other support teams to resolve problems encountered.
