Job Introduction
Autism Anglia is a well-established independent charity. We have opportunities available for Support Workers on a full-time and part-time basis, working from our Supported Living Services in Colchester, Essex.
We are looking for Support Workers who can drive. The successful Support Worker will assist people who are within the autistic spectrum, some with additional Learning Disabilities, enabling them to maximize their potential and develop life skills across multiple activities. The successful Support Worker will work as part of a team to help those in your care achieve their own life goals through person-centred planning.
This role is well suited to someone with previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant or Carer, particularly with Autistic individuals or those with Learning Disabilities in a healthcare setting.
Autism Anglia is dedicated to providing ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support, as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.
The role:
1. Working in partnership with the team to provide a strengths-based, outcome-focused approach for all individuals.
2. Driving our residents to appointments, social occasions, errands, shopping, and other activities.
3. Maintaining the dignity, respect, and privacy of each individual supported by assisting them with personal care, health, and hygiene-related activities, which may involve sport and leisure, cultural and recreational activities including day trips, short breaks, or holidays.
4. Assisting individuals with communication support tasks, psychological monitoring, or intervention and sensory support tasks.
5. Ensuring that the quality of support given meets the identified needs and that all relevant documentation is regularly reviewed, evaluated, and amended as necessary.
6. Keeping up-to-date and clear and accurate records and support plans/risk assessments to reflect each individual’s requirements.
7. Knowing, understanding, and working within Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults procedures, ensuring all concerns are acted on and dealt with according to policy and procedure.
Applications are welcome from Support Workers who:
1. Have a full, clean UK Driving License, with a minimum of 1 year's driving experience.
2. Have previous experience working as a Senior Support Worker, Team Leader, Healthcare Assistant, or Carer, preferably with Autism or Learning Disabilities.
3. Have the ability to identify the needs, wishes, and aspirations of individuals who may have communication needs.
4. Have experience in working with people with Autism and intensive behavioral support.
5. Are experienced with activity coordination and have knowledge of opportunities in surrounding areas.
6. Possess a good range of communication skills.
