We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Private Care Therapy Team at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. This role is part of a well-established therapy team to provide tailored, individualised care to patients with complex orthopaedic conditions including revision hip replacements, spinal surgery, upper limb surgery, and sarcoma. Supporting and facilitating the patients' pathway from pre-admission assessments to discharge home post-surgery. This role is ideally suited to an existing or emerging Band 7 occupational therapist who demonstrates excellent transferable skills.
We are dedicated to supporting staff members' upskilling in both clinical and non-clinical areas of practice. You will have excellent development opportunities in these areas. You will be well supported by your clinical OT supervisor and director of clinical services on Private Care. You will have access to CPD opportunities, including further development of your leadership skills.
Main Duties of the Job
* To lead a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service for patients within the private orthopaedic care setting.
* To independently assess and treat highly complex patients from pre-operative assessments to the post-operative phase of inpatient care, including short stay patients and inpatient rehabilitation.
* To promote the occupational therapy role and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the team.
* To effectively work alongside colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team to achieve the patients' goals and facilitate safe transition from hospital to discharge destination.
* To adopt and promote a culture of continuous learning and personal development.
* To teach and supervise junior members of the team, therapy technicians, and occupational therapy students.
* To contribute to service improvement to maintain high-quality clinical care.
* To work alongside the Band 7 lead physiotherapist including attending meetings and performing managerial and clinical tasks.
* This post will be part of a weekend Occupational Therapy service supporting discharges and rehabilitation across the inpatient wards.
About Us
As a tertiary referral centre, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is the largest orthopaedic hospital in the UK and a global leader in our field. You will join a team of 4 Physiotherapists and 1 therapy technician who manages a pre-admission and inpatient orthopaedic service. You will be assisting the Band 7 Lead physiotherapist with the day-to-day running of the service and provide support and supervision for junior therapists, therapy technicians, and students. For your professional development, you will be supported by a Band 8a Occupational Therapist and the director of clinical services to develop your clinical, managerial, and service improvement skills, as well as having access to senior occupational therapy and physiotherapy colleagues within the wider therapies department.
Job Responsibilities
Ideally, you will have had 5 years post-qualification experience, with some orthopaedic experience. This post utilises many transferrable skills from physical rehabilitation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* DipCOT/ Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists or recognised equivalent.
* Registered with Health Professions Council.
* Evidence of CPD maintained portfolio.
* Recent post-graduate courses in relevant specialist area.
* Attended courses related to staff supervision/development.
Experience
* Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience.
* A broad range of rotations as a Band 5/6 including physical rehabilitation.
* 1 year NHS or Private care experience at Band 6 level.
* Attained a high level of clinical competence in your specialist area.
* Experience of student and staff supervision.
* Experience of leading audit in specialist area and demonstrates a sound understanding of quality issues.
* Experience of teaching junior staff and undergraduates.
Skills
* Up-to-date knowledge of professional practice and new research.
* Ability to communicate with patients with impaired communication abilities.
* Ability to work in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers.
