You will support the Policy, Strategy and Public Affairs team with the development of a diverse range of policies and strategies, and will also support with getting the council’s messages across to national and regional government, the civil service and important partners such as Bristol’s five Members of Parliament (MPs). You’ll do this by keeping informed with the latest national policy developments, carrying out research for briefings, writing letters, and organising meetings and events. Aside from completing a Level 4 Policy Officer apprenticeship, the successful candidate will learn wider transferable skills in a supportive and friendly team environment. What do I need to have? You will hold a relevant level 3 qualification (e.g. NVQ level 3, BTEC, relevant A levels, etc) or will be able to demonstrate suitable knowledge, understanding and aptitude. You will be able to demonstrate an interest in policy, strategy and public affairs, alongside a willingness to develop skills such as strategic thinking. You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to manage a varied workload, can be organised and are able to deliver administrative tasks. You should be able to demonstrate an ability or willingness to carry out research. You should be able to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, with a willingness to work with different groups – both inside or outside the council – to support the work of the team.
