TheLTHT radiology department is one of the largest in the NHS and has anestablished reputation for clinical innovation and expertise along with asignificant teaching and research profile. The department contains one of threenational radiology training academies with associated educational facilitiesand resources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme. The departmentpartakes in NIHR funded research and has been successful in obtaining fundingfor developing and establishing an academic programme focusing on oncologyradiology.
Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCR(or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a trainingprogramme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Main duties of the job
Theappointee will be required to contribute to the existing diagnostic GIHPBradiology workload and MDT commitment.Specifically, the appointee will be expected to join the smallsub-speciality team providing support to the Leeds Liver Unit, one of thelargest liver units in the UK. In particular the appointee is required to haveexperience in imaging assessment for live related liver donors. Contributing to the nationally renowned liverelated liver transplant service is an essential requirement of the job.
Applicants should haveestablished skills in GI/HPB and non vascular interventional radiology and itsrelated specialties including liver transplant imaging including recipient andlive donor assessment as well as experience in tertiary level HPB MDTs. A strong commitment to undergraduate andpostgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Job responsibilities
This new post in GIHPB radiology is required tomeet increasing demand on the GIHPB and Acute Radiology services. The post willhelp fill gaps in the service due to loss of DCC from the existing consultantworkforce and to increase cold reporting capacity, improve provision of acuteservices and support the regional tertiary level GIHPB cancer MDTs. It ishighly desirable for prospective applicants to have a sub-specialty interest inHPB radiology.
The appointee will be required to contribute tothe existing diagnostic GIHPB radiology workload and MDT commitment. Specifically, the appointee will be expectedto join the small sub-speciality team providing support to the Leeds LiverUnit, one of the largest liver units in the UK. In particular the appointee isrequired to have experience in imaging assessment for live related liver donors.Contributing to the nationally renowned liverelated liver transplant service is an essential requirement of the job.
The department serves patients under the careof clinicians in tertiary referral specialities including hepatology,hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation. Theappointee will become a core member of the regional tertiary Liver/Gallbladderand Pancreatic MDTs. They are also expected to contribute to the departmentsdiagnostic radiology on-call service.
The GI/HPB radiology service currently consistsof 13 consultants, 5 of whom specialise in HPB radiology, 6 in luminalradiology and one in general radiology as well as 3 advanced practiceradiographers who support the fluoroscopy and CTC service.
The job plan will be subject to reviewaccording to the successful applicants training and skills.
Overview of Radiology in LTHT
The LTHT radiology department is one of the largest in Europe and has anestablished reputation for clinical innovation and expertise along with asignificant teaching and research profile. The department contains one of threenational radiology training academies with associated educational facilitiesand resources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme. In terms ofresearch the department has helped establish a NIHR funded research 3T MRI aspart of the Leeds Biomedical Research Unit contained on trust premises. Withinthis unit imaging plays a large part in most musculoskeletal projects alongwith performance of separate radiology specific research.
Recently the department has also been successful in obtaining fundingfor developing and establishing an academic programme focusing on oncologyradiology led by a Professor of Radiology.
The University of Leeds is a major partner in both of these researchstreams and is looking to expand the latter with specific academic radiologyappointments. In terms of University honorary appointments radiologyconsultants have formed a large proportion of the recently created HonoraryClinical Associate Professor positions.
Research and Education are priorities for the Trust and any newradiology consultant appointed will have the opportunity to explore furtheringresearch and educational possibilities when in post if they wish.
