This post has been made available due to a vacancy in an established team of 3 consultants working at the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale providing care across inpatient, day care and community settings. The post will comprise 7 sessions (0.73 WTE with on call commitment) at the hospice with managerial and out of hours commitments. There is scope to increase to 10.3 sessions from 7.3 sessions. The post will be primarily based on the hospice in-patient unit with a commitment to the specialist palliative care community team by agreement between the established consultants and successful applicant. The post holder will be employed through VUNHST which employs all consultants in palliative medicine in the Cardiff area.
Main duties of the job
* To act as a Specialist Palliative Medicine Consultant to all clinical services based at the Marie Curie Hospice Cardiff and the Vale (MCHC&V).
* To provide high quality, timely, patient-centred and consultant led care for hospice in-patients, community-based patients and those accessing Wellbeing and Support Hub (WaSH) services.
* To work to ensure an integrated model of palliative care service delivery to all patients within the catchment areas of the hospice based services by collaborating closely with other specialist and generalist palliative care providers in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
* To contribute to the teaching, audit and research activities of the hospice, the wider specialty in Wales and Marie Curie.
* To take on appropriate management and clinical governance responsibilities.
* To participate in an on-call rota providing 24/7 out of hours support to all hospitals, specialist palliative care in-patient units and community-based patients within the Cardiff and Vale University Heath Board Areas.

Qualifications
* On Specialist Register for palliative medicine with CCT or Specialty Trainee eligible for CCT within six months of interview date or CESR(CP) due within six months of interview date MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
* Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education.
Experience
* Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Teaching and training of post/undergraduate medical staff.
* Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit.
* Commitment to evidence based practice and experience of research.
