UKCEH is looking for an experienced Biodiversity Science Administrator to join our team in the Biodiversity and Land use Science area. At the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, we carry out world-leading research to understand the environment, how it sustains life, and the human impact on it - so that together, people and nature can prosper. We’re looking for a proactive administrator, with experience of supporting biodiversity-related research projects in the UK and overseas.
Your main responsibilities will include:
1. Joining a team to deliver large, multi-partner biodiversity research projects by providing administrative support, such as booking meetings and travel, procuring services and equipment, collating project performance data etc;
2. Providing science support to projects, including contacting landowners to gain access permission for ecological surveys, data input, equipment preparation and occasionally helping with fieldwork;
3. Coordinating and attending stakeholder events (on-site or at external locations, including overseas);
4. Providing administrative support for events and workshops, including support with meeting facilitation, running breakout rooms, Miro boards, recording and transcribing meetings using software tools etc;
5. Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including devolved/UK/International governments;
6. Collating/maintaining science group documentation and dissemination of corporate information to science teams;
7. Personnel administration, including supporting managers with arrangements for interviews and local inductions etc.
For the role of Biodiversity Science Administrator we are looking for somebody who has:
1. Excellent organisational and time management skills;
2. Flexibility and adaptability to multitask;
3. Proficient in the use of software, including Microsoft 365, Sharepoint etc;
4. Knowledge and understanding of using AI tools;
5. Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes, including bespoke financial and people management software;
6. Good written and oral communication skills;
7. Excellent interpersonal skills;
8. A team player;
9. Ability to work on your own initiative;
10. Attention to detail;
11. Discretion and an understanding of confidentiality issues;
12. A degree and/or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. environmental science);
13. Experience of scientific project support and administration;
14. Experience of managing stakeholder-facing meetings and workshops.
