The Role:
This role offers an exciting opportunity within Specialty MGA UK’s Energy, Power and Renewables team. As an Underwriting Assistant, the individual will support the underwriting process by assisting with the analysis of complex global risks and contributing to the development of bespoke energy, power and renewables-related reinsurance solutions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a genuine passion for developing a career within the insurance and reinsurance industry. Duties & Responsibilities:
* Provide data entry and administrative support as required, maintaining precision and efficiency in all tasks.
* Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the underwriting process is efficient, smooth, and timely.
* Prepare slips for underwriter approval, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with underwriting and market guidelines.
* Foster strong, collaborative relationships with brokers, ensuring the highest level of client service.
* Prepare underwriting notes for new business and renewals with minimal supervision, ensuring consistency with in house underwriting strategies and objectives.
* Capture and maintain detailed analytics for the Energy, Power and Renewables team, ensuring data accuracy and relevance.
* Develop underwriting expertise under the mentorship of senior underwriters, progressively taking on more independent responsibilities.
* Cultivate strong broker relationships through effective communication and exceptional service.
Skills / Experience:
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
* Proficiency in data entry and management with in house systems and SharePoint.
* Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external clients.
* Understanding of natural catastrophe and exposure management concepts.
* Ability to support the underwriting processes across multiple lines of business.
* Familiarity with underwriting documentation and reinsurance slips.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
* Eagerness to develop knowledge in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
Team and Culture:
The Underwriting Assistant will report directly to the Assistant Underwriter, and work closely with the wider underwriting team.
