Job Description:
IO Interactive is an independent video game development and publishing company with studios in Copenhagen, Malmö, Barcelona, Brighton and Istanbul. As the creative force behind some of the most talked-about multiplatform video games in the last decade, we are dedicated to creating unforgettable characters and experiences – all powered by our award-winning proprietary Glacier technology.
A passion for fantasy worlds has long been ingrained in our studio, and at last we can announce we have embarked on a journey into that beloved realm. With a party of veteran IOI guild members and new wizards and sorceresses of the industry, we are building an ambitious new IP for console and PC that will revolutionize the online fantasy RPG genre. If you share a similar passion for creating welcoming, heartfelt, bold and impactful worlds, join us and together we will write the next chapter in IOI's history.
We're looking for a Combat Systems Designer to join our innovative team working on an exciting new project Fantasy. With a focus on creating dynamic and engaging combat mechanics, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape the core gameplay experience and leave a lasting impact on our cutting-edge AAA game. With a commitment to diversity and inclusivity, we encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply. Join us in writing the next thrilling chapter in gaming history!
This is a permanent position based in one of our studios, with the option to work from home up to two days per week.
What you will do:
1. Develop and implement combat systems that provide depth and excitement, enhancing player engagement.
2. Collaborate closely with gameplay designers and programmers to integrate combat mechanics seamlessly into the game.
3. Create detailed design documentation to communicate combat system vision and specifications effectively.
4. Prototype and iterate on combat features based on player feedback and internal reviews to ensure a high-quality user experience.
5. Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and research to innovate and improve combat systems continuously.
6. Conduct playtests and analyse gameplay data to refine combat mechanics for balance and fun.
Who you are:
1. 3+ years of experience in game design with a focus on combat systems, preferably in the AAA games industry.
2. Proven track record of developing engaging and polished combat mechanics in released titles.
3. Strong understanding of game design principles and player psychology.
4. Proficiency with relevant game development software and tools.
5. Exceptional problem-solving skills and creativity, with attention to detail.
6. Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and communicate effectively across disciplines.
