The successful engineering candidate will conduct engineering duties necessary for the planning of an operational surface coal mine. The engineer will conduct mine planning to include analyzing and recommending production equipment, staffing needs, overtime requirements, and projecting annual and life of the mine operating budgets. The engineer will also perform permitting duties as required to comply with state and federal requirements.
Job Description:
Essential Duties:
1. Develop 10 year and annual mine plans in accordance to customer delivery schedules utilizing Carlson Mining software.
2. Completion of engineering studies to include annual operating budgets, engineering reports, and equipment comparison evaluations.
3. Prepare dragline and shovel designs to calculate overburden volumes and coal inventory to schedule equipment and maximize efficiency.
4. Assist in preparation of long-term and short-term plans including dragline plans, reclamation plans, and load and haul plans.
5. Prepare and process equipment procurement specifications and evaluations as required.
6. Provide technical support to the operations and maintenance departments as directed.
7. Design and oversee construction projects for mine site infrastructure including haul roads, facilities, bridges, and water management features.
8. Provide technical support for environmental department projects associated with mine permitting and regulatory compliance.
9. Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal regulations.
Other Duties:
1. Prepare presentations on engineering projects for operators, management, and customers.
2. Assist with permit renewals and revisions.
3. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Advanced knowledge of computer applications is required:
o Microsoft Office Applications
o Auto Cad (Carlson Mining Software)
o Geologic modeling and mine planning software
o Mineware monitoring systems (Pegasys, Argus)
2. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
3. Good problem-solving skills.
4. Familiarity with the application of large earthmoving equipment in a surface coal mining environment.
5. Familiarity with budgeting and financial analysis is desirable.
6. Knowledge of civil/environmental engineering applications and environmental and safety regulations.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Mine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required. An Associate's degree and three years of engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
