Position Summary:
The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. This role includes guiding students through structured, content-rich lessons in a specific discipline, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling moral and civic virtues. Teachers provide students with a robust educational experience during each class period, ensuring they develop academically and personally. In addition, teachers are expected to maintain clear expectations, demonstrate subject matter expertise, and care for the individual growth of each student.
Essential Functions:
* Prepare unit and lesson plans and teach specific curriculum in alignment with curriculum map
* Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
* Foster professional relationships with faculty and staff
* Actively seek collaborative relationships with parents and mentor students in the pursuit of their own flourishing
* Model moral character in line with the school's core virtues and the pursuit of Good, True, and Beautiful
* Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
* Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
* Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
* Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
* Participate in professional development
* Maintain confidentiality in student records
* Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
Position Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree or passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area required
* Strong background in relevant content areas with a willingness to receive specific training
* Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.
* Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
* Commitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues
* Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and applicable school and board policies
* Proficiency in English verbal and written
* Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
* Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
* Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skills
* Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and team members
* Ability to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
* Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to challenges

* Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.

Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
* Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
* Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing to teach
* Must be able to supervise outdoor recess
