Applications are invited for the post of clinical fellow in Gastroenterology. The post is ideally suited to an enthusiastic individual who has completed core medical training and wishes to build on their experience prior to further specialty training.
This is an exciting opportunity to experience inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology in a DGH setting. We have 3 substantive consultant gastroenterologists and 3 locum consultant gastroenterologists with specialist interests that include inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, advanced endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary medicine, small bowel disease and academic research.
Our clinical fellow is required to contribute to inpatient care on the wards and outpatient clinics. Training in endoscopy will be available, depending on the post-holder’s level of experience.
Currently inpatient work is organised into 4 week periods, overlapping with the consultant rota to provide continuity. Approximately one fourth of the time will be spent on inpatient duties which include attending consultant ward rounds, leading ward rounds on the other days, supervising junior colleagues and participation in the weekly radiology meeting/MDM meeting.
3-4 outpatient clinics under consultant supervision are scheduled during a normal week. These are predominantly general gastroenterology and specialist IBD clinics.
There is time outside the service requirements of the job to develop a clinical research or quality improvement project. There are opportunities to contribute to existing clinical trials; training in good clinical practice and in trial recruitment can be provided.
A wide range of staff benefits are available to our staff including staff development, enrolment in the NHS pension scheme, auto-enrolment to our Temporary Workforce Service, access to nurseries at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital, staff restaurants and on-site staff accommodation.
In addition to an internal Occupational Health department, all staff also have access to free psychological support through our confidential Employee Assistance Programme which is available to staff 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Onsite parking is available for a small administration fee.
