The Curator will develop a new artist-in-residency programme that invites artists to develop socially engaged activities in response to annual themes, embedding the concept of social permaculture.
Forgan Arts Centre is recruiting a Curator to further develop and deliver our artistic programme within the framework of our new business plan, An Arts Centre as a Garden.
The role of Curator is a new position. They will work closely with the Director and wider team to embed the social permaculture concept at the heart of An Arts Centre as a Garden. They will be directly responsible for a new residency programme that invites artists to develop socially engaged activities in response to annual themes. The Curator is also responsible for our seasonal events, a new programme of outdoor artist commissions, and other artist development opportunities.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape Forgan Arts Centre’s artistic programme. The role of Curator is a creative, challenging, collaborative and hands-on position. It is suitable for someone with a strong knowledge of contemporary art, experience in artist development and an interest in social change.
This role is possible thanks to investment from Creative Scotland.
Key Details
1. Status: This is an employed position.
2. Salary: £29,130 per year, pro-rata which is £23,304 per year.
3. Hours: This is a part-time role at 0.8FTE which equates to 28 hours per week excluding a 30-minute lunch break daily.
4. Period: This is a fixed term position of 3-years.
5. Flexibility: We do our best to support flexible working that fits with other personal and professional commitments and needs.
6. Location: Due to the place-based nature of Forgan Arts Centre’s programmes we anticipate most hours to be spent at the centre.
7. Annual leave: We provide 7 weeks of annual leave per year pro rata, which equates to 28 working days off in total including public holidays.
8. Pension: Employer contributions of 3%.
9. Benefits: There are opportunities for continuing professional development and training. Annual 2% salary increase.
The Curator will be required to participate in a four-week long social permaculture training programme in October 2025 which takes place on Saturdays from 9am-12.30pm.
