Applications are invited for a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Chronic Pain Medicine at Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust (MCHFT). This exciting opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic team focused on providing high quality patient care for a diverse range of patients.
The Treatment Centre comprises of 4-day case theatres, 5 endoscopy rooms and a recovery area. There are 7 inpatient theatres including one 24 hour a day emergency theatre and an orthopaedic barn theatre.
The award-winning Maternity Department consists of a self-contained midwife led unit with 3 rooms with birthing pools. The delivery suite has 6 standard delivery rooms, 2 theatres and a 2 bedded recovery area.
The spacious Critical Care Unit located adjacent to the theatre suite has recently been expanded. This provides an integrated 18 bedded area with four potential isolation rooms and the ability to cohort into a four-bedded area separate from the main unit.
A Surgical Admission Lounge (SAL) next to theatre admits patients on the day for elective operations.

Main duties of the job
The job plan will consist of 8 PAs of Direct Clinical Care including on-call commitment and 2 PAs of Supporting Professional Activity per week (SPA for private CPD, audit, appraisal and research and a further SPA for training, educational commitments and service development, for which evidence of activity will be monitored.
The appointee will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical management for patients requiring anaesthesia and chronic pain management.
Duties will include anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases including paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics and general surgery. Paediatric sessions may be in ENT, dental, ophthalmology, urology or general surgery. The post will also include outpatient chronic pain clinics and procedure sessions, with associated time for administration. There are also opportunities to contribute to all aspects of the department's activities, and those of the wider Trust. This post includes participation on the general on-call rota and provision of weekend trauma lists.The successful candidate will join the existing team of consultants who work closely together and act as a very supportive group with a determined ethos.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to Practise
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months if interview), CESR, European Community Rights
* FRCA or equivalent Diploma
* Substantial and relevant experience in anaesthesia
* At least one year's experience of working in the NHS
* FFPMRCA
clinical skills and training
* Advanced training in chronic pain medicine
* Higher training in general, urological and gynaecological anaesthesia, and day case anaesthesia
* Higher training in anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery and regional anaesthesia
* Higher training in paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia
* Higher training in head, neck maxillofacial and dental surgery
* Higher training in trauma and stabilisation
* APLS & ALS (or equivalents)
* ATLS (or equivalent)
* Relevant medical experience outside anaesthesia
* 6 months training in paediatric anaesthesia (with a minimum of 3 months at a tertiary centre)
* Evidence of anaesthesia for the high risk patient
* Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
* Active regular participation in teaching and training of medical and para-medical colleagues
* Regular commitment to continuing medical education
* Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
* Extensive / formal experience in medical education including regional teaching.
