The post is a 1-year leadership opportunity to cover a secondment and would be suited to those interested in taking the next career step in medical education within Undergraduate Primary Care Education at Imperial College London. The unit is one of largest and most innovative in the UK, overseeing several core placements within the 6-year medical MBBS curriculum at Imperial College London. The Undergraduate Primary Care Education team has an exemplary global reputation for curricular innovation and works with over 500 GPs to deliver teaching across multiple clinical placements in the MBBS programme. You will work closely with the Faculty Development Manager and Deputy Director to set the strategic direction and priorities of the faculty development team. This team oversees quality assurance of GP placements, community GP teacher recruitment and retention and continuing professional development activities to support the Primary Care modules across the MBBS degree.
What you would be doing
* Work with the Faculty Development Manager to ensure timely recruitment and retention of GP teachers, using a wide range of innovative approaches.
* Ensure quality assurance processes are in place for practice approvals and assist placement leads in managing issues relating to GP teacher performance and student feedback.
* Develop and deliver continuing professional development (CPD) e.g. training workshops, conferences to support community GP teachers.
* Teach and examine placements in the undergraduate medical curriculum where relevant
* Work with the wider team to help set the strategic vision and priorities for all primary care placements.
* Keep abreast of current national and global trends in medical education and political drivers that relate to unit priorities.
* Where appropriate, liaise with the Faculty Education Office of the Medical School to link with the overarching quality assurance processes of the Faculty.
* Develop and evaluate evidence-based faculty development innovations.
* Lead on GP trainee (F2/ITP/ACF/OOPE) supervision and line management where appropriate within the department
* Attend key departmental, medical school, and external meetings where appropriate.
What we are looking for
* Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice
* MRCGP or other higher medical qualification (e.g. MRCP, MFPH)
* Eligibility for appointment as an NHS GP
* Higher degree or other postgraduate qualification in medical education
* Significant experience of working in General Practice
* Evidence of education research experience, evaluation of teaching, applied critical reasoning and peer-reviewed publication and/or national and international conference presentations
* Experience in curriculum planning and development in medical education at the under/post graduate level
* Experience of working as an educator in a higher education setting
* Knowledge of national polices relating to primary care and undergraduate education, GP training schemes and formal and informal networks of GPs
