Job overview
To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, as defined in the National Standards of Cleanliness, in all areas of responsibility.
To ensure Infection Prevention and Control guidelines are adhered to. The Post Holder will be required to ensure personal conduct is at the highest standard while on the hospital premises, exhibiting courtesy and efficiency to patients, visitors, and users of the service at all times.
Main duties of the job
1. Will be required to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including colleagues, other Trust staff, visitors, and contractors.
2. Will be required to interact well with patients to provide the highest level of service in aid of Trust’s commitment to patient first.
3. Demonstrate duties and aid in orientation of wards/departments to new starters as part of on-the-job buddying.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To ensure the cleanliness of the area you have been assigned to under the direction of your manager.
2. This will include cleaning areas such as corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms, and patient bed spaces on a frequent basis.
3. To adhere to all aspects of ‘Control of Infection & Prevention’ procedures.
4. Comply with National Cleaning Standards and the required cleaning frequencies as per the work schedules provided.
5. General floor scrubbing and floor maintenance according to agreed frequencies and guidelines.
6. Ensure the correct use of chemicals making sure the handling, storage and safe usage are in line with COSHH regulations.
7. To ensure that all cleaning equipment is kept clean and maintained in good working order.
8. Attend all training sessions and complete competency tests as appropriate.
9. To ensure that all tasks are completed using the risk assessments and “safe systems of work” as instructed by your manager.
10. Responsible for ensuring the security of stock and that cleaning cupboards are kept clean and tidy.
11. Adherence to Trust standards regarding uniform, conduct, and the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.
12. To ensure patients' privacy and dignity is maintained throughout your work.
Person specification
Qualifications and Experience
* A good level of General Education, Numeracy, and Literacy.
* Educated to NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services or equivalent experience.
* A good standard of English is essential for effective communication.
* Willing to undertake training as required.
* Cleaning experience of working within a healthcare environment.
* Experience in the use of cleaning equipment including floor machinery.
* Knowledge of hygiene standards including infection prevention and control.
* Positive attitude and the ability to communicate with patients, staff, and visitors.
