Job Title: (Managing) Senior Building Surveyor
Location: Newton Abbott
Salary: up to £53k basic salary
Car allowance: £6.5k
Reporting to: Commercial Manager
We are recruiting an experienced people-focused manager to work as a Senior Building Surveyor / Surveying Manager for our client in the Social Housing realm who deliver a comprehensive responsive repairs service (including gas servicing and repairs) as well as offering a host of additional property services such as planned maintenance works, voids, cyclical painting solutions and appliance testing and repairs.
About the role:
The Senior Building Surveyor is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team of Building and Compliance Surveyors to ensure service delivery is compliant with Building Regulations, Housing Standards and all associated legislation.
The Senior Building Surveyor:
1. Engages with the Client, Residents & Stakeholders to understand and manage a range of complex housing needs
2. Provides leadership and direction to the technical team
3. Oversees and manages the technical and regulatory aspects of contracts
4. Maintains an auditable framework of best practice
5. Works closely with the commercial & operational teams to ensure alignment of objectives to deliver consistent quality and Value for Money
Provides regular reports to the Commercial Manager, Director of Operations and Executive team as necessary.
Key accountabilities:
1. To manage, develop and lead a multi-disciplinary team of Building and Compliance Surveyors ensuring their professional development and training is aligned with regulatory and legislative requirements.
2. To engage with the Client, Residents & Stakeholders to ensure project outputs are clearly understood, meet expectations and designed to deliver a high degree of customer satisfaction.
3. To oversee and manage the technical and regulatory aspects of contracts including site surveys, feasibility studies, specifications and contract documentation.
4. To support procurement through the delivery of detailed specifications and scopes of work.
5. To oversee the preparation of pre-construction information and act in accordance with CDM Regulations.
6. To develop and implement best practice for scoping, specification, inspection and audit of works.
7. To lead and manage annual compliance audits.
8. To work closely with the commercial & operational teams to ensure alignment of technical, delivery and commercial objectives.
9. Manage contractor performance, conduct post-contract performance reviews, develop improvement plans and integrate within future projects.
10. To monitor and report on performance to ensure that services meet performance, contractual compliance, quality and budgetary targets.
11. Provide professional advice and guidance recommending practical and cost-effective solutions to complex building and compliance needs.
12. To maintain the Company's best interest at all times whilst promoting a professional and positive image and having full regard to the interest of the Public.

Background knowledge:
1. Intellectual Ability: Degree, professional qualification or equivalent. MRICS or MCIOB an advantage. ILM Level 4 an advantage.
2. Technical Skills: Good technical writing, pre and post contract experience, knowledge of CDM, Building Regulations & Housing Standards.
3. Management Skills: Planning and organising, problem solving.
4. Prior Experience: Proven experience gained within the Housing Maintenance industry.
5. Personal Skills: Numerate and literate. Able to use MS Office applications. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
