The Role
As a Financial Accountant, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful individual to generate significant value by collaborating with the wider Babcock Finance team to support the standardisation of central finance processes in all aspects of Fixed and Lease Assets across the UK business.
Day-to-day, you’ll be reporting to the Finance Manager (Fixed and Lease Assets) supporting all Babcock business sectors, in all aspects of Fixed and Lease assets including the Aviation fleet, ensuring the application of best practice, standardisation and effective controls:
1. Working with Babcock sectors in Fixed and Lease Asset budgeting, forecasting and reporting to ensure compliance with company, statutory and audit requirements.
2. Supporting the development of consistent policies for accounting for Fixed and Lease Assets across Babcock Group, implementing best practice and standardisation.
3. Supporting the Finance Manager (Fixed and Lease Assets) in playing a coordination and support role with colleagues in France, Canada and Australia relating to aircraft assets as required.
4. Administration of the Group's IFRS 16 BPC tool and associated accounting and the supporting the eventual interface to ERP systems.
5. Management of fixed and leased asset registers to ensure correct accounting treatment of additions, disposal and depreciation policy, completeness, valuation and impairment.
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and regular travel to Portsmouth, on a weekly basis alongside home working arrangements.

Essential Experience of the Financial Accountant:
6. Demonstratable experience of working within a Finance function, ideally, in a complex international business environment.
7. Experience of reviewing and improving finance processes with a fresh perspective beneficial.
8. Commercial awareness with a good understanding of the business environment including customers, competitors, etc.
9. Experience with Finance IT applications (e.g., SAP, NAV (Navision, IFS, etc.), BPC, TMS), as well as Microsoft Office suite of applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and Outlook.
10. Ideally, possess working knowledge of Fixed and Lease accounting and / or IFRS 16.
Qualifications for the Financial Accountant:
11. You must hold or be working towards a recognised accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, ACMA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS, AAT) or equivalent / similar.
