The Seagate Derry / Londonderry Manufacturing site has been open for 30 years this year. We have over 1200 people working in our facility which is among the most advanced in the world, in the design, development, and volume manufacturing of recording heads using state of the art semiconductor equipment. These recording heads write information onto and read information from the recording disc, within the data storage device.
Our Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) team is committed to fostering a safe and sustainable work environment. The Safety Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving the successful implementation and management of various safety programs and initiatives. This position will require knowledge of relevant safety regulations, ISO standards and the ability to work cross functionally across the organisation to continuously improve our EHS performance.
About the role - you will:
* Collaborate with the relevant Equipment, Facilities and Research/Development Engineering teams to ensure equipment is procured, installed and maintained to meet EHS requirements
* Enhance our contractor management program to further improve selection, training and work practices to minimise EHS risks during infrastructure upgrades, and equipment installation and maintenance activities
* Co-ordinate cross-functional risk assessments to manage the risks from current and emerging technologies to proactively eliminate/control hazards
* Perform regular internal audits and inspections to monitor and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards to drive improvements in safety performance
* Provide guidance and support to employees on safety-related matters and promote a culture of safety awareness and to drive best practices.
* Investigate and analyse incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
* Stay up-to-date with the latest safety regulations and best practices in the industry.
About you:
* Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related safety or engineering field.
* Minimum of 1 year’s relevant experience, or a higher degree without experience, or a recognised safety qualification
* Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills, builds and maintains positive internal/external collaborative relationships
* Committed to continuous improvement and identification of safe work methods, equipment and processes
* Ability to problem solve and influence key stakeholders
* Self-motivated and capable of organising and prioritising work tasks.
Your experience includes:
* A strong background in safety or engineering, preferably with experience in one or more or the following areas: equipment safety, contractor management, ergonomics, emergency response, fire safety, chemical safety, industrial hygiene
You Might Also Have:
* Manufacturing/industrial experience
* IOSH Membership (TechIOSH/CertIOSH/GradIOSH, working towards CMIOSH preferred)
* Knowledge of ISO management system requirements
