Job role overview: The Senior Design Engineer role is an employee-led progression on from Design Engineer, following experience and demonstration of the skills needed to perform at a higher level.
Report to: Package Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer or Functional Lead
Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire
Design Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the delivery of the Design and Development of a number of components on a motorcycle, consulting with and seeking support from Specialists and Chief Engineers as required.
2. Responsible for delivering these components to the time, cost, quality, and specification in line with the NMIP process and KPI's.
3. The role is a highly technical role, focused on detail and delivery.
4. Communicate and collaborate across the entire supply/value chain to maximize team working and effectiveness.
5. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of detailed project plans to ensure that current and future deliverables are met to promise.
6. Deliver to the key KPI's asked of the role that will be driven from Cost, Time, Quality and Specification targets.
7. Follow established processes, procedures and working practices to minimize risk to projects and products, but also challenge these to maximize the effectiveness of the Department.
8. Escalate concerns, risks, and issues up through the reporting chain.
9. To undertake and assist with projects as required by your Manager.
10. Any other ad-hoc duties as required by your Manager.
Senior Design Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
As per a Design Engineer, although it is expected that a Senior Design Engineer will be able to pick up more technically demanding work and responsibilities as befits their experience and competence.
Person Specification: SENIOR / DESIGN ENGINEER
Qualifications and Attainments:
1. Maths and English GCSE grade C or above.
2. MEng or BEng in an Engineering related subject.
Professional Experience and Skills:
1. Has a highly technical approach, with emphasis on attention to detail.
2. Ability to collaborate on technical judgement as required to get value added from more experienced staff, with emerging ability to work independently as experience increases.
3. Ability to demonstrate urgency and willingness to deliver to promise.
4. Demonstrates the ability to think ahead regarding risk and mitigations for their designs, with a focus on robust and proven solutions.
5. Increased ability to work independently, while still collaborating on technical judgement as required to get value added from more experienced staff.
6. Previous experience of working within an automotive/manufacturing environment.
Personality and Motivation:
1. Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of high-quality work and the impact that this has on the rest of the business.
2. Willingly takes on accountability of tasks defined by Package Leads, Area Leads, or Functional Leads, understanding the need to follow these through to completion.
