Role Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry to join our reputable team. This role offers a unique opportunity for a passionate psychiatrist to provide expert clinical care, leadership, and advocacy for individuals with learning disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assume clinical responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with learning disabilities, including those with coexisting mental health disorders, behavioral challenges, and complex needs.
2. Provide specialized psychiatric assessments, interventions, and treatments, tailored to the unique needs and abilities of patients with learning disabilities, ensuring a person-centered and holistic approach to care.
3. Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, care planning reviews, and clinical governance activities to ensure coordinated and integrated care delivery, adherence to clinical guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
4. Offer consultation, advice, and support to community teams, residential care facilities, and support services working with individuals with learning disabilities, promoting collaborative working and best practice in care provision.
5. Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff, including Specialty Registrars, Core Trainees, and Foundation Year doctors, fostering their professional development and clinical competency in learning disabilities psychiatry.
6. Engage in research, audit, and service development projects within the learning disabilities psychiatry field to enhance service provision, promote innovation, and address unmet needs in care delivery.
Requirements:
7. Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry.
8. CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Psychiatry or equivalent, with extensive experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in learning disabilities psychiatry.
9. Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health disorders and behavioral challenges in individuals with learning disabilities across the lifespan.
10. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with patients, families, and carers.
11. Commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centered care, promoting advocacy, and championing the rights and well-being of individuals with learning disabilities.
12. Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to relocate if necessary.
