The post holder will work in partnership with specialist palliative care, volunteer services, ward staff, and other Trust teams to ensure patients and their families are aware of the Peony Volunteer Service and are able to access support when required. The project will take place at Worcester Royal Hospital and, if successful, will be extended to the Alexandra Hospital sites. The post holder, with support from the Volunteer Services Manager and the Anne Robson Trust, will attract, recruit, train, induct, and retain a group of Peony volunteers. The aim of this new service is to provide a companionship service for patients who are in the last hours and days of their life, and support those important to them. The post holder will work in partnership with specialist palliative care, volunteer services, ward staff, and other Trust teams to ensure patients and their families are aware of the Peony Volunteer Service. They will organize training, ensuring that all mandatory requirements are met, and establish good working relationships with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth running of the service. The post holder will attend DREAMS Meetings, providing relevant updates and contributing to the general improvement of end-of-life services. Liaison and Support Liaise and establish good working relationships with the Chaplaincy Team and Bereavement Services. Liaise daily with the Specialist Palliative Care & End of Life team and ward staff to ensure that all patients on an Individualized Last Days of Life Care plan are referred to the Peony Volunteer team, as appropriate. Provide regular contact and support to Peony volunteers to encourage motivation and loyalty and ensure that their role is valued. Conduct soft mentoring sessions with each member of the Peony Volunteer team at least once every four shifts. Emotional and Pastoral Support Provide emotional and pastoral support to the team of Peony volunteers and implement a Buddy system for mutual support. Attend relevant meetings, participate in discussions, and raise the profile of butterfly volunteers supporting patients at the end of life and their families. Conduct regular audits to ensure that all Peony Volunteers cover required shifts per month and provide correctly completed feedback forms for each patient they visit. Understand, respect, and implement confidentiality, GDPR, PECR, and Privacy Regulations through relevant training and guidance. Volunteer Management and Reporting Ensure all volunteering activities meet the Trust's service needs and comply with health and safety, legal requirements, environmental, and equal opportunity policies. Maintain accurate data collection and produce monthly and quarterly reports on service activity. Intervene at initial stages of conflict, grievances, and complaints, managing as appropriate, reviewing Volunteer placements where problems arise, and arranging transfer, redeployment, or effective dismissal as necessary. Communication and Engagement Day-to-day liaison with the Palliative Care Team and Volunteer Service to meet the needs of clinical areas for end-of-life volunteer support. Build wider relationships with internal departments to support their capacity to work with Peony Volunteers. Participate in regular recruitment events to ensure fair representation from local communities, process queries, and provide ongoing support for Peony volunteers. Lead on arranging interviews for recruitment, ensuring candidates are informed about their progression in the recruitment process. Additional Responsibilities The post-holder may occasionally need to attend out-of-hours meetings and be available to support volunteers outside normal working hours, including some weekends. Undertake travel to offsite meetings with the ART Management team.
