Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager of programmes or projects, ideally within an NHS setting, to work within a vibrant R&D department delivering world class research to our service users. Supported by a small team of Project Managers and researchers, the post holder will primarily oversee delivery of the Mental Health Missions Midlands Translational Centre - further details for which can be found at Midlands Mental Health Translational Centre - University of Birmingham. The current programmes of work include digital platforms for stratified recruitment to clinical trials and standardised clinical endpoints, and increasing access to Clinical Research Facilities. In addition to this, you will support the Head of Department in leading programmes of change and developing and rolling out the Trust's R&D strategy.
Main Duties of the Job
- Responsible for the creation, management and successful delivery of projects and programmes in the Research and Development Department in line with the Trust's strategy.
- Responsible for fiscal management of project and programme budgets, the effective line management of designated team, temporary project team members, assigned staff and honorary placement staff, and the effective management of stakeholders.
- Leading on an array of projects linked to world class research in mental health, the post holder will provide operational and programme management across the department, at the direction of the Head of Department and the Senior Management team.
- Providing peer review support to colleagues for the development of project paperwork, presentations and reports, leading on own projects or initiatives to support the Head of Department and deputising for the Head of Department as and when required.

Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
1. Essential: Graduate or equivalent professional qualification.
2. Qualification(s) relevant to this position, Prince 2 practitioner or MSP or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Experience:
1. Essential: Minimum of two years' recent experience in programme management at a senior level or five years' experience in project management, ideally within the NHS.
2. Minimum of two/three years staff management experience.
3. Desirable: Knowledge of Research and Development in the NHS.
Skills:
1. Essential: Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff at all levels, on technical and non-technical subjects which may be sensitive or contentious.
2. Desirable: Able to lead, encourage and motivate staff, giving clear instructions to teams and successfully monitor and manage performance.
