KEY DUTIES To participate in a duty rota which includes Weekday evening shifts, weekends, Bank Holidays and on call commitments. To communicate all relevant information within the team to ensure the continual and efficient running of the service. To communicate and liaise between decontamination personnel, customers and other members of healthcare staff in a polite and helpful manner. To demonstrate competency and understanding of sterilisation and disinfection procedures. To report any untoward accident/ incident or any faulty equipment to the supervisor and document procedure in accordance with departmental and Trust policies. CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Disassembly, checking, decontamination, packing, sterilisation and dispatching of instruments following specified procedures as prescribed by the departments Quality System while complying at all times with Health and Safety, Control of Infection and other mandatory medical device requirements. Carryout assembly and function testing of instruments and other medical devices ready for use in procedures, ensuring that check lists are adhered to at all times. Ensure quality standards are maintained and any variances reported to supervisory staff or management. Maintain a controlled working environment through safe practices. Perform autoclave duties; this includes test and live runs, and ensuring all necessary documentation and procedures associated with sterilisers is carried out correctly. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES To assist in the training of other decontamination personnel to perform tasks as directed by the Decontamination Technician Supervisors. To maintain and be able to use IT systems. Participate in personal development through annual appraisal and seek to improve own personal goals, experiences and skills. TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES Be familiar and comply with mandatory legislative standards such as Health and Safety, Manual Handling, COSHH, Infection Control and correct segregation and labelling and disposal of clinical waste. To comply with current legislation and national guidance relevant to the decontamination of reusable instruments and disposal of sharps and single use items. To comply with all Trust policies and procedures pertaining to attendance and time. RESEARCH & AUDIT Participate fully in Trust induction, annual updates, and other departmental training programmes and training events. To follow the decontamination departments training programme and undertake training in line with the Institute of Decontamination Sciences educational framework as agreed with the line manager. To have an understanding of the Departments Quality Policy, Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that a high standard of work is maintained at all times.
