BMS Software Engineer
The Opportunity: As a consequence of our clients ongoing growth, there is an opening for an experienced BMS Engineer to join the team. This role is pivotal within the department responsible for designing and implementing cost-effective, low-carbon energy solutions for both public and private sector clients across the UK. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and verification of energy conservation measures within Building Management Systems (BMS). Additionally, they will provide BMS support to broader low-carbon energy initiatives and project delivery teams.
The scope of projects includes optimising existing BMS control strategies, upgrading outdated BMS controls and network infrastructures, and integrating low-carbon technologies such as Solar PV, heat pumps, and hydronic system optimisation. This position is ideally suited to an experienced BMS engineer who is passionate about contributing to the drive towards Net Zero.
The Role: As a BMS Engineer, the role involves collaborating closely with the team on all aspects of BMS energy-saving initiatives, with a particular focus on project execution. Key responsibilities include:
* Conducting detailed surveys of BMS and controlled HVAC equipment to identify potential energy conservation initiatives.
* Evaluating the baseline performance of BMS control strategies by reviewing strategy drawings, O&M documentation, and current operating conditions.
* Identifying and gathering existing BMS logs or establishing new logging systems to support the modelling of potential energy savings.
* Collaborating with BMS sub-contractors to design and cost BMS energy-saving initiatives for EPC tenders, high-level assessments, and investment-grade proposals.
* Working with sub-contractors to create, review, and seek client approval of reviewable design documents such as control philosophies, risk assessments, method statements, and impact assessments.
* Coordinating with project delivery teams to ensure BMS initiatives are implemented according to design specifications, within the agreed timeframe and budget.
* Supporting the commissioning, witness testing, and handover of BMS energy-saving initiatives.
* Assisting in the measurement and verification of guaranteed energy savings.
This position offers the flexibility of remote working, with a balance of home-based tasks, site visits, and occasional travel to the office in Burnley. It is not a site-based role, and full-time travel is not required.
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a diligent and self-driven individual with a proven track record in delivering BMS optimisation and upgrade projects. Experience working with BMS sub-contractors and project delivery teams to ensure projects are completed to specification, within budget, and on schedule is essential.
Skills and Experience:
* Experience in energy performance contracting is beneficial but not mandatory.
* Extensive knowledge and experience in BMS and HVAC control strategy design and operation.
* Proven experience in delivering BMS projects through sub-contractor partnerships.
* Familiarity with integrating HVAC systems into BMS, with a strong understanding of common high-level networks such as BACnet, Modbus, and MBus.
* Experience collaborating with customer IT teams to deliver IT infrastructure upgrades, transitioning from proprietary BMS networks to Ethernet-based systems.
