Job Details
Property Services, design, specify, cost, commission and supervise works to the Council’s building stock and provide Energy Management, PPP compliance and Facilities Management functions to Council Services who operate the council’s public buildings.
Reporting to the Electrical Engineer, Building Management, the successful candidate will be required to work independently or as part of a design team, carrying out Electrical Engineering duties and producing technical design solutions on a variety of building projects from inception to completion.
The position is predominantly Monday to Friday, however the post holder will be required to be contactable by telephone if guidance/support is required in relation to out of hours emergencies.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Undertake duties including site surveying, site inspections, design and working drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, contract documents, design calculations, assessment and reporting on existing facilities and plant, technical and contract administrator’s duties as appropriate.
2. Liaise with statutory bodies as required.
3. Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, regulations and industry codes of practice and standards applying to the construction process. (e.g. Town Planning Acts, Building Standards Legislation, Eurocodes, etc).
4. Work as Contract Administrator, or work as consultant to Lead Designer/Contract Administrator on contracts determined to be of a suitable scale and complexity.
5. Assist in controlling all contractual matters including design, specification, nomination of Sub Contractors and Suppliers, certification and expenditure of monies, working as part of a team.
6. Comply with relevant legislation, regulations and the Council’s and Property Service’s policies on Health and Safety and codes of practice.
7. Carry out other tasks within the general scope of the post as may be allocated from time to time.
8. Comply with the Councils Scheme of Administration and Standing Orders. Contribute to the achievement of the Council’s corporate aims and values.
The Person
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and good communication skills. Knowledge of CAD and 3D design software is essential. Experience of Building Services Engineering operations and maintenance is desirable as is experience of contract administration.
Applicants must be educated to SCQF level 7, which includes an HNC in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent. You will have some familiarity with Electrical Building Services Engineering in domestic, commercial and industrial premises, have some experience in the preparation of specifications and contract documentation and be able to carry out supervision of work on site.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate their ability to prepare clear and concise reports which assess and balance competing issues, be keen to deliver to agreed targets and be responsive to customers.
