Diffusion Alloys is a global specialist in the application of a wide range of protective and hard-wearing coatings. What will you be doing? Our site is expanding, due to an increase in demand from clean technologies, and we have an opening for a Senior Technical Scientist within our Technical Team. The Senior Technical Scientist will be primarily involved in the execution of the research and development strategy of the technical team. Key responsibilities of this role would include: Leading research into the use of diffusion coatings to provide coating solutions for new and emerging clean technology applications Continually reviewing and summarising academic and market relevant developments on target market degradation issues and potential solutions Continually evaluating competing coatings and in particular the advancement in alloys that are being developed that shall compete with coating solutions Execution of coating development programs Driving forward the coating validation and characterisation projects on both the company’s existing coatings and those developed through research and development Working with the Technical Director to ensure that the commercial team have clear and concise case studies to present to the market of the benefits of diffusion coatings to the different clean technologies Experience, Responsibilities and Duties Has a genuine interest in the development and evaluation of coating processes Is willing to be hands on, and involve themselves in the practical aspects of coating development, in addition to the theoretical ones Is excited to work for a small company and take on the responsibilities for bringing technical developments to commercial production capability, in a short period of time Has a genuine interest in understanding and evaluating market requirements, and targeting research and development activity, to solve identified issues and/or opportunities Is results driven, and eager to help a company expand their offering into new and emerging markets Key Skills A technical background with at least a BSc degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemistry or process engineering. A higher-level academic background is advantageous Academic, research or industrial experience in coating technologies Able to work both independently and collaboratively Good attention to detail, time management (including the ability to work to deadlines) and project management skills Strong troubleshooting skills Able to make and communicate decisions quickly and clearly Strong IT skills – principally in Microsoft Office What do we expect from you?
