Rushall Medical Centre are looking for a motivated Practice Nurse to join our team at Rushall. Experience working in general practice would be ideal but is not essential. We are looking for a Practice Nurse who is driven to ensure we are giving our patients the essential care and support that they need.
The Practice Nurse role is vital and varied and the successful candidate would ideally be able to undertake a full range of core clinical competencies as identified in the job description.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide nursing treatment under the direction of the GP's.
2. Provide health screening with agreed protocols with referral to GP if indicated.
3. Advise patients on general health care with referral to GP as necessary.
4. Act as chaperone to GPs when required.
5. Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears, etc. On the spot urinalysis (dip) testing, and perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GP. Ensure that all monitoring processes for patients with chronic diseases are undertaken in accordance with practice policy and in a timely manner.
6. Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes/computer records.
7. Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and hoc reports.
8. Assist in the formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy.
9. Ensure the adequate maintenance of equipment and stock levels in the treatment rooms, liaising with the Practice Manager.
About us
Rushall Medical Centre is a large independent, friendly and innovative practice. We are based approximately 3 miles outside of Walsall town centre. We have 5 GP Partners; 3 Salaried GPs and 1 Clinical Pharmacist. We have a large nursing team consisting of 3 Practice Nurses, 5 HCA's and 1 Nursing Associate. We have approximately 13 members of the administration team and a management team. We also have a number of PCN staff including Paramedic, First Contact Physiotherapists, Social Prescriber, Care Coordinators, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Job responsibilities
1. Ideally a minimum of 2 years in general practice but this is not essential and training will be provided.
2. Asthma monitoring.
3. Management of Diabetes.
4. Management of COPD.
5. Cervical Cytology.
6. Childhood Immunisations.
7. Height/weight/body mass index interpretation of results/action.
8. Anaphylaxis and CPR.
9. Venepuncture.
10. Knowledge and implementation of infection control procedure.
11. Family planning.
12. Learning Disability annual review and care planning.
13. Advanced wound care management.
14. Child and Adult protection.
15. Health & Safety.
16. Health promotion.
17. Ear care and syringing.
18. Able to manage own workload and support others in the team.
19. Increase in knowledge of diseases and ability to communicate this knowledge to the general public.
20. Ability to administer Zoladex /Prostrap /Flu/Pneumococcal/COVID/Shingrix.
21. Involvement in care pathways in collaboration with others.
22. Management of chronic diseases.
23. Respond to QOF alerts and to actively undertake reviews required in line with the framework.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Nursing Degree.
* Current NMC Registration.
* ARTP.
* Independent/Supplementary Nurse Prescribing.
* Cervical Cytology Registration and current pin.
* Evidence of commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
Experience
* Practice Nurse experience in General Practice would be ideal but is not essential.
* Enthusiasm and motivation.
* Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
* Ability to work within a team.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* IT Skills.
* Clinical Skills: Cervical cytology, Childhood Immunisations, Phlebotomy, Dressings.
