Job overview
Receptionist required for A&E at the William Harvey Hospital on a permanent basis.
The role is responsible for providing an efficient and streamlined administrative management service to patients and customers of East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. The post holder will support the delivery of National and Trust targets; therefore, it is essential that accurate and timely data entry is performed. The post holder will be required to offer very high customer service skills for both internal and external staff and patients. The post holder will be required to have their own transport to allow working across two sites. This post ensures patients are booked into the Emergency Department 24/7, 365 days a year.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide an efficient and comprehensive administration and reception service.
2. To be an initial point of contact within the department providing appropriate responses and onward directions to all callers in a courteous manner. Deal with telephone enquiries, take messages accurately, and give information and advice (not medical) to GPs, patients, relatives, and other staff involved with the patient in a manner responsive to customer needs and in accordance with Trust procedures.
3. Book in and direct all patients who attend the department.
4. Input and update data on the computer system ensuring accurate tracking steps are logged for each patient on screen across the A&E Department, ensuring the correct doctor tracking code is used (including Locum doctors with a unique code) and that each patient has a D1S tracking step. Upon discharge, ensure all patients have been correctly admitted, discharged, or transferred appropriately.
5. Assist the Nurse in Charge in the discharge process of patients.
6. To arrange the most appropriate transport for discharge/transfer and follow-up clinics.
7. To undertake any clerical duties as deemed necessary.

The ability to converse easily and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for all customer-facing roles.
