Palliative Care Nurse Associate (Band 6) or Palliative Care Nurse Specialist (Band 7)
Queenscourt Hospice is an independent charity that provides free, specialist palliative care for the people of Southport, Formby and West Lancashire. We care for patients with advanced progressive illnesses, helping them to achieve the best possible quality of life.
Salary: £37,666 – £45,230 (Band 6) per annum, pro rata (Dependent on Experience) or £46,547 – £53,126 (Band 7) per annum, pro rata (Dependent on Experience)
Hours: 30 – 37.5 hours, Permanent
Location: Southport, Merseyside
Palliative Care Nurse Associate (PCNA Band 6)
The Palliative Care Nurse Associate is a first level nurse with specialist skills in the care of individuals with specialist palliative care needs. Their principal responsibility is supporting the Band 7 caseload holders in both hospital and community settings, delivering specialist palliative care advice to staff, patients, and carers. This may include providing specialist assessment, advice on pain and symptom control, education, and effective communication skills, including discussing place of care and advance care planning.
The Palliative Care Nurse Associate will have a structured programme of development, both clinical and educational, and will be supported by an identified Palliative Care Nurse Specialist and Terence Burgess Education Centre.
Palliative Care Nurse Specialist (PCNS Band 7)
The Palliative Care Nurse Specialist is a first level nurse with high-level specialist skills in the care of individuals with complex specialist palliative care needs. The principal responsibility is the delivery of specialist palliative care advice to staff, patients, and carers, facilitating the palliative and end-of-life care agenda as part of a seven-day-a-week service. This may include providing specialist holistic assessment, advice on pain and symptom control, education, and effective communication skills, including discussing preferred place of care and advance care planning.
In the community, the PCNS works closely with a group of General Practices and District Nursing Teams as a specialist support for patients, families, and staff caring for patients with specialist palliative care needs.
