The Role
The Senior Product Owner is accountable for implementing the product strategy, prioritising the backlog by agreed product outcomes, and leading cross-functional teams to ensure effective collaboration and maximise the value of their product. They operate across the full product lifecycle, including oversight of budgets (typically £5m+) and resources, ensuring that the product is successfully launched and continuously evolved for long-term market success. The Senior Product Owner operates in an environment of high complexity, often across multiple business units. This entails the management of complex interdependencies and multiple senior stakeholders.
Outcomes of the Role
* Work with the Product Portfolio Manager and Product Sponsor to define, track and deliver against the Product Strategy and agreed set of prioritised Product outcomes.
* Manage and maintain the Product roadmap by agreeing on Product outcomes.
* Where vendor technology applies, intimately understand the vendor product and roadmap to inform the Product roadmap and maximise the value it delivers.
* Develop key performance indicators to measure results against agreed Product outcomes.
* Overall management of a matrixed agile team (typically 15+) including combined business, technical, data, design, and research capabilities in a continual make-test-learn product cycle.
* Leverage feedback, data, user experience research and industry best practices to inform the Product backlog, ensuring it is prioritised and groomed effectively on an ongoing basis.
* Own the full product development lifecycle, including post-launch product management and ideation through to the launch of new features and functionality in an incremental manner that maximises the value of the product.
* Effectively communicate and advocate the Product roadmap to the business, ensuring it is articulated and understood.
* Work with the Product Portfolio Manager and other Senior Product Owners/Product Owners to build and maintain a joined-up Product Portfolio roadmap which enables the clear articulation and management of cross-product dependencies.
* Cooperate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders, particularly vendor partners.
* Operate across multiple business units relative to your Product, managing competing expectations and complex interdependencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Product management expertise, with a deep understanding of product lifecycle management, from ideation to launch and ongoing development.
* Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute a product strategy that aligns with business goals and adapts to market trends.
* Stakeholder management skills in engaging and managing relationships with clients, representatives from the business, and cross-functional teams.
* Technical acumen, with knowledge of product development, including an understanding of technology stacks, software development processes, and digital platforms.
* Market and customer insights with proficiency in conducting research, analysing client needs, and translating insights into actionable product features and improvements.
* Experience in overseeing complex projects, and managing budgets, resources, and timelines.
* Experience in managing Agile teams that include working with key vendor partners, with strong leadership skills to guide and motivate, facilitate collaboration, and drive performance and a ‘one team’ collaborative mentality.
* Communication skills for articulating product vision, strategy, and business-wide updates clearly and effectively.
* Experience using project management and virtual collaboration tools such as Jira, Miro, and PPM.
* Demonstrable experience in a Product Management/Ownership role.
* Certified Product Owner.
* Experience operating in an agile product delivery environment.
* Experience working in highly complex, interdependent delivery environments.
