Job Title: Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Location: Bournemouth School Type: Primary SEN Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm Job Description: The Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) plays a vital role in supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within a primary school setting. The SEN TA works closely with teachers and other school staff to ensure that all pupils have an inclusive, supportive, and enriching educational experience tailored to their individual needs. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one or small group support for students with special educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum. Adapt and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO. Assist students with tasks that may be challenging for them, fostering their independence and confidence. Work collaboratively with teachers to create an inclusive classroom environment that addresses the diverse needs of all students. Help to prepare classroom resources and materials tailored to the needs of pupils with SEND. Support the management of student behavior and promote positive social interactions among peers. The Ideal Candidate will have: Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs, is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and under the direction of teachers and the SENCO. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed. Basic knowledge of the special educational needs code of practice and relevant legislation. Working Conditions: The role may involve physical activity, including assisting students with mobility needs. Working hours will typically align with school hours, with some flexibility for meetings or additional support as required.
