Path Links is a networked NHS Pathology service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples. All Path Links laboratories are accredited to United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189 standards.
A Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is an integral part of a pathology laboratory team. An MLA supports Biomedical Scientists in delivering a first class diagnostic service to medical professionals.
The MLA role is both challenging and rewarding. It is centred around ensuring patients receive the very best level of care in the analysis of their samples and the results that are produced. These results inform medical professionals on important decisions that they make regarding patient care.
A Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is part of a Microbiology team. They provide services to Clinicians and General Practitioners, and assist qualified laboratory staff in the delivery of an effective service. This may include support duties in other laboratory areas.
Delegated work and duties will be arranged and performed under the direct and indirect supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) utilising Standard Operating Procedures. Staff will be required to undertake extensive ‘in-house’ training using training modules and competency assessments to achieve a level of knowledge equivalent to NVQ level II qualification.
The role is very hands on and will require the successful applicant to work with a variety of specimen types and pieces of equipment to deliver analytical results. There is also a responsibility for general laboratory duties, such as cleaning, stock management and maintenance of equipment.
The role is primarily to support the overnight functions of the Microbiology Department and the successful applicant will need to be prepared to predominantly work nights shifts between 8pm-8:30am. There will also be a lesser requirement to work some day shifts from 8am-8:30pm. The post will therefore require some flexibility in availability, although all shifts are allocated well in advance to allow for planning.
Should we receive a high volume of applications the advert may be closed earlier than stated.
